Argument
Inspired by his love of reading chivalry novels, Don Quixote decides to go in search of his own adventures and appoints his faithful friend Sancho Panza as a squire.

Act I
In the village there is a great party. Kitri, the daughter of innkeeper Lorenzo, flirts with barber Basilio, with whom she is in love against her father’s will, as he intends to marry her to Gamache, the rich man of the town. This is when Don Quixote and Sancho arrive. When he sees Kitri, Don Quixote believes that she is Dulcinea, the imaginary owner of his heart. Among so much confusion, Basilio and Kitri take this opportunity to run away. When the innkeeper and guests realize this, they set off in their pursuit.

Act II
Scene I
In their flight, Kitri and Basilio arrive at a gypsy camp. Her father, furious and desperate, also arrives at the camp. At one point, a storm breaks and Don Quixote, in his delirium, mistakes the windmills for threatening giants. He assaults them, is entangled in their sails and falls to the ground into a deep sleep.
Scene II
In his crazy fantasy, Don Quixote is guided by Cupid to enter the wonderful kingdom of the Dryads. When he sees them dancing, he recognizes Kitri among them, already converted into Dulcinea, his great love. When Sancho awakens him and he revives, he realizes that they must continue their journey.
Scene III
In their epic flight, Kitri and Basilio arrive at the tavern, where they have great fun and celebrate their love with their friends. They are found by Kitri’s father, who wishes to announce the wedding of his daughter with Gamache. In his despair, the poor Basilio stabs himself. Seeing his daughter suffer, he agrees to bless this tragic love. In doing so, Basilio stops pretending he is dead and celebrates the acceptance of Kitri’s father with all.

Act III
Thanks to the intervention of Don Quixote in favor of lovers, the priest of the village finally gives his blessing to Kitri’s and Basilio’s love for the joy of all their friends, who in a great final dance say goodbye to the famous adventurers.
