Micro

Micro is an energetic experience which attempts to grasp the different poetries of the rock concert and which, through the physicality of the performers, allows the music to be heard but also seen. By starting with different restrictions of movement and space, Pierre Rigal gets his musician-actor-dancer partners to compose music which is playful, romantic, raging and harrowing. This music, referred to as “pre-post-rock” becomes the fruit of this deployed energy and Pierre Rigal, like some Alice surrounded by Wonders, becomes its physical manipulator.

“micro is a kind of physical concert, a microscopic opera which presents pre-musical creatures on stage. They emerge gradually out of a moving instrumental landscape. Electricity, like sonic haemoglobin, invades the space and connects the elements together. In a carnal body-to-body with the instruments, these absurd monsters are gradually transformed and become, like hunting hounds, the sound on which they might feed. The adolescent energy of rock slowly recaptures these strange stage beasts. Trance – convulsive, comic or demoniac – carries them off on a voyage which flirts with the frontiers of music. Along the way they come across some gentle songs to pacify them and slow down their eventual overcharging. Their mythology is down-to-earth, raw, technical and organic, but also full of humour and poetry. micro recounts how body and music interact, as the vibrations in the air and those of the flesh connect with each other. The human being is a musical animal; the rocker is a musical monster.”

The committed artist

In all the arts and here especially in dance, the artist sometimes creates to defend a cause, to denounce a fact, to disturb, to shock. Here is a panorama of some "committed" choreographic creations.

[1970-2018] Neoclassical developments: They spread worldwide, as well as having multiple repertoires and dialogues with contemporary dance.

In the 1970s, artists’ drive towards a new classic had been ongoing for more than a half century and several generations had already formed since the Russian Ballets. As the years went by, everyone defended or defends classical dance as innovative, unique, connected to the other arts and the preoccupations of its time.
