An extract remodelled by the group Mouvements « À part », coordination by Fabienne Degorce, as part of the “Danse en amateur et repertoire” programme (2019/2020) (a programme created to assist and promote amateur dancing).

The group

Mouvements « À part » (Lubersac, Nouvelle-Aquitaine) 

Born over time, through encounters, dance workshops or shared projects, “Mouvements « À part »” is made up of hip-hop and contemporary dancers  and multi-disciplinary professional artists that meet for one week each summer for a creative work under the sign of dance, heritage, and nature. The dialogue of the various artistic practices resonate with their environment, giving rise to a show intended for a rural public. 

Within the association Événements à part, supported by the Drac and the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the group has worked with the choreographers Françoise Cance, Julie Dossavi and Hervé Koubi. 

The project 

“Ce que le jour doit à la nuit”: with this title taken from Yasmina Khadra’s novel, Hervé Koubi devised a dance in the form of a return to one’s roots, driven by the desire to decipher and celebrate his Algerian origins that he discovered late in life. In the company of a team of twelve dancers from Algeria and Burkina Faso – street dancers, capoeiristas or acrobats – he created a ceremony in chiaroscuro, oscillating between hip-hop, traditional ritual, and contemporary dance: the allegory of an inner journey, like a wave between the two shores of the Mediterranean. 

Koubi, Hervé

In 2000 Hervé Koubi created his first project Le Golem. Since 2001 he has collaborated with Guillaume Gabriel on all of his works. He created Ménagerie (2002) and Les abbatoirs, fantasie (2004). In 2006 he worked with the musician Laetitia Sheriff for the piece 4’30”. In 2007 he reworked a ‘déambulatoire’ (ambulatory piece) originally created for the Croisette de Cannes in 1997, Les Heures Florissantes for the festival ‘Cadences d’Arcahon’ and also a piece mixing contemporary writing and gestural hip-hop: Moon Dog. In 2008 he undertook three choreographic works based around three pieces of writing: Coppélia, une fiancée aux yeux d’émail… / Les Suprêmes / Bref séjour chez les vivants. He collaborated with the author Chantal Thomas for the creation of Les Suprêmes and with the ‘notateur’ (a specialist in choreographic notation) Romain Panassie (Benesh notation) on the work Bref séjour chez les vivants. In 2009 he started on a collaboration with the Ivorian dancers of the company ‘Beliga Kopé’ for the piece entitled Un rendez-vous en Afrique, and from the year 2010 until 2013 he has accompanied a troupe of twelve Algerian and Burkina Faso dancers for a fixed course between two creations, El Din (created in 2010/2011) and Ce que le jour doit à la nuit (created in 2013).
 

He has also worked with film-makers for video-dance projects, such as Max Vadukul and Yoji Yamamoto for the Chic Chef in 2009, Pierre Magnol for Body concrete in 2010 and Ovoid Edges in 2012, and once again Pierre Magnol along with Michel Guimbard for Body concrete 2 in 2011, and also Stéphane Chanzalon for Une Histoire des Traces which began in 2012 and will continue until 2015.
 

In parallel to the creative work of the ‘Compagnie Hervé Koubi’, he is also regularly invited to various professional training centres around France (‘EPSE DANSE’ in Montpellier, the ‘Centre National de la Danse’ in Lyon, and the ‘Ecole Supériere de la Danse’ in Cannes, etc.) and abroad (the national ballet of Ecuador, the ‘Ministere de la Culture et de la Francophonie’ in the Ivory Coast, the national ballet of Yucatan in Mexico). In 2012, at the invitation of Paola Cantalupo- director of the ‘Ecole Supériere de Danse de Cannes’- he became the choreographer of the boys contemporary variation for the qualification of ‘Diplôme National Supérieur Professionnel du Danseur’. In 2012, the ‘Forum Jaques Prévert de Carros’ obtained the support of the ‘Ministere de la Culture’ (France)- DRAC PACA through the ‘Projet identité mémoire construit’ for his collaboration with the ‘Compagnie Hervé Koubi’.

Chaumeille, Ivan

Film director, Ivan Chaumeille, has worked with choreographer Dominique Brun a long time, most notably in the production of + One (2014), a creative documentary scheduled as part of the festival “Vidéodanse”, in the editing of which Rafaël Gubitsch participated; he filmed and edited two versions of Afternoon of a faun, choreographed by Vaslav Nijinski for the film Le Faune -un film ou la fabrique de l’archive. He also carried out interviews, and devised and formulated the ROM and video dimensions of the DVD (2007). He shot video sequences for the show Medea-Stimmen by Virginie Mirbeau, created at Festival Les Météores CNN du Havre (2008). With a background in philosophy, he produced a creative documentary entitled Avec François Châtelet, un voyage différentiel (2010) for the collection “À Contre-temps” in co-production with Groupe Galactica, Mosaïque films and Canal 15.

Gubitsch, Rafaël

Rafaël Gubitsch, who is a camera operator, film editor and photographer, produces documentaries and videos around plastic art, music and dance.

He recorded videos by the artist Elliott Causse “Fluctuations” in the context of his numerous installations and monumental frescoes. The film Propagations (2015) portrays the opening of the exhibition, which has the same name as his creation.

He made several documentary videos for Trio Talweg including the EPK of their album Trios avec piano (2018), the recording of which is shown at the Arsenal of Metz.

He has been assistant film editor with Ivan Chaumeille several times, including for + One (2014), a creative documentary scheduled as part of the festival “Vidéodanse”.

As a photographer, he planned the exhibition Urbanicités (2016) with Corentin Hervouët at the 39/93 in Romainville, which focuses on daily life and the city, the multitude of loneliness.

Rafaël has been the audiovisual operator of the exhibition hall of the Philharmonie de Paris since 2016.
