The group

ART21 (Laon, Hauts-de-France)

The association Regard Trisomie 21 seeks to change the view of the role of people with a disability, by placing dance and physical practices at the heart of their actions. For this group of nineteen amateur dancers, aged between eighteen and fifty-nine years old, artistic practice is an opportunity for initiating an all-inclusive, mixed space for sharing, a vector of emancipation and uniqueness. Hand-in-hand with the choreographer and Feldenkrais practitioner Nathalie Hervé, ART21 regularly invites choreographers, dancers and visual artists like Valérie Dumas, Daniel Larrieu, Ramuntcho Matta and Mickaël Phelippeau to undertake creative projects engaged in transforming social representations.

The project

Welcome to Bienvenue, solo created by Xavier Lot for the Burkina Faso dancer Bienvenue Bazié, is an ode to freedom beyond the realms of constraints and borders. By reproducing this solo for six dancers, ART21 extends this dance’s message and endows it with universal reach. Each dancer’s body, exuding personal history as well as social history, becomes a thread for exploring identity as if it were an emotional map portrayed directly on the skin.

After performing for a host of choreographers, in particular Susan Buirge, Odile Duboc, François Verret and Mathilde Monnier, Xavier Lot founded his company Ulal Dto in 1994. After over twenty years of choreographic creations, highlighted by numerous partnerships with theatre, circus and visual arts, he continues to advocate pluralistic dance, active in society, as illustrated through his latest creation, Je suis slogan. Placing particular attention to cultural diversity and diversity of forms of expression, Xavier Lot also organizes numerous workshops in prisons, schools and associations, to conjure up body imagery for as many people as possible.

Film director, Ivan Chaumeille, has worked with choreographer Dominique Brun a long time, most notably in the production of + One (2014), a creative documentary scheduled as part of the festival “Vidéodanse”, in the editing of which Rafaël Gubitsch participated; he filmed and edited two versions of Afternoon of a faun, choreographed by Vaslav Nijinski for the film Le Faune -un film ou la fabrique de l’archive. He also carried out interviews, and devised and formulated the ROM and video dimensions of the DVD (2007). He shot video sequences for the show Medea-Stimmen by Virginie Mirbeau, created at Festival Les Météores CNN du Havre (2008). With a background in philosophy, he produced a creative documentary entitled Avec François Châtelet, un voyage différentiel (2010) for the collection “À Contre-temps” in co-production with Groupe Galactica, Mosaïque films and Canal 15.

Amateur Dance and Repertory is a companion program to amateur practice beyond the dance class and the technical learning phase. Intended for groups of amateur dancers, it opens a space of sharing for those who wish to deepen a practice and a knowledge of the dance in relation to its history.
