Bahia de todas as cores
“Bahia de todas as cores” draws us into the heart of Salvador de Bahia's traditions, into the midst of religious festivals, colourful pelourinhos, fishermen and mermaids… It shows all the traditions, beliefs, stories and music of this amazing region in the north of Brazil. The dancers' natural ease in performance comes from the popular shows which are an everyday event in Bahia. These are the core focus of the company's research, which make full use of the dance, music and all other aspects which make up the show, and so become a reliable source of authenticity for the choreography.
Dancers, singers and musicians with exceptional energy and technique present an account of the africanisation of Bahia through candomblé, maculelê, samba de roda and capoiera.
“A new national tour brings this company to us tonight with a new programme and an even more spectacular production, which ends with the audience following the dancers and musicians out of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. The sight of audience members dancing in the square outside the theatre comes as no surprise to anyone who has already seen at first hand this show by the Balé Folclórico da Bahia…”
“The fireworks and prowess of Brazil. Turn off the electricity; the dancers of the Balé Folclórico da Bahia will supply all the energy necessary for the show. The audience is astonished by every leap of the dancers on stage. It would be difficult to find another group of dancers capable of demonstrating such prowess in such perfect fashion....”
